At first I assumed the reason there were so many rainbow flags adorning businesses and homes in Palm Springs was because of Pride celebrations.

As it turns out, it has more to do with its residents.

Palm Springs originally gained its popularity for being the desert oasis, which Hollywood’s darlings would escape to for some peace and quiet. Especially if they were seeking refuge from society’s expectations.

Fast forward to today and Palm Springs is one of the most inclusive cities in the world.

According to the Municipality Equality Index it has some of the best scorecards in the US. And it elected Americas first all-LGBT city council in 2018.

Every year I hear clients asking about how they can support inclusivity or dabble in pride celebrations for visibility. The next time you want some inspiration, don’t look to what was done in Toronto last year. Look at what’s being done in Palm Springs today.
